A major milestone was reached on Thursday afternoon after the launch of the brand new STIG72. The Italian owner, passionate sailors and recent winner of the Audi Melges 20 Gold Cup Championship, is now ready to take a big step forward and compete in the Mini-Maxi class, starting with the Copa del Rey in a mere ten days.
After just seven months since construction started in Finland at Baltic Yachts, the new Judel/Vrolijk-designed 72 footer was launched in Valencia on Thursday afternoon. Stay tuned for extensive coverage from her maiden sail during the weekend and an interesting interview with Rombelli.

Why Baltic? They are not known for race boats of this kind. There are so many other yards that are crying for work…??

It was a ‘trade-in’ for the owners old boat (custom Baltic 65). But you are of course right, it should be solid!

Ah, guess they are also quiet. I wonder if Persico, being Italian, also put a price in? Maybe it was twice the price of everyone else!
Great looking boat – might go as far as “sexy” and looking forward to seeing her sail. (not sure about the paint job?!? Is it meant to look that bad?)
Good luck guys!

Interesting how far forward the mast is. Going to require some slick steering downwind.
Sexy looking boat.
