Scare for Dongfeng

Dongfeng Race Team suffered a major scare in their pursuit of Leg 3 victory in the Volvo Ocean Race on Thursday when a tack line on a key sail snapped. The incident happened with the leading Chinese boat still 945 nautical miles from the leg finish in their home port of Sanya as the team made their way through the South China Sea having survived the hazardous Malacca Strait over the previous five days. The Jules Verne Trophy 2015: let the adventure begin!

On 6th January 2012, just over three years ago, the Jules Verne Trophy record was beaten for the seventh time in its history. A new record for sailing around the world without stopping via the three capes was beaten by 14 sailors aboard the largest trimaran ever to be built. The crew travelled 40,000 km around the world in 45 ½ days, just over half the time that Jules Verne famously gave to Phileas Fogg. Continue Reading
